Working at a fast-growing tech startup is exciting and inspiring, but also very challenging at the same time. Here at Josh.ai we’re always on the lookout for motivated individuals who want to be a part of something great.
We are currently hiring for a number of positions, from sales and marketing to software development and design, and we’re often asked what to expect during the interview. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Know Your Stuff …
When it comes down to it, we’re looking for people who are good at what they do.
If you’re interviewing for a technical role, you must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, Denver, CO. Our company is officially headquartered there, and all of our engineering is based out of our Cherry Creek office. As part of the engineering team, you’ll be working directly with CTO Tim Gill and the rest of our talented engineers in an open and collaborative environment.
Be prepared for a coding challenge before the interview. We want to give you a chance to show off your technical chops and put your best foot forward before meeting in person. It’s also a good idea to bring your personal computer when you come to our office for an in-person interview.
If you’re interviewing for a role on our business team, you must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, Los Angeles, CA. Located five blocks from the beach in sunny Santa Monica, our LA office is the center for all of our business operations and user experience.
Once you apply, we’ll review your resume and reach out for a phone interview. After that, we’ll ask you to come into our office for an in-person interview. You may be asked to come in for multiple rounds, since, among other reasons, many of us are out traveling to meet clients. We want the whole team to get a chance to meet you!
… And Know Our Stuff Too
If you really want to impress us, come prepared to flatter us and show off your knowledge about our company, product, and people on the team. We’re proud of what we’ve built and are excited about where the company is going, and we want teammates to share that same excitement.
Be Yourself
While the hard skills are critical to your application, we also care a great deal about how well you would fit into our company culture. The more you let us see your personality, the better chance you have to get us excited about working with you.
Our dress code in the office is like any other startup: casual and fun. When you come in for an interview, feel free to dress to impress if you’re more comfortable doing so.
Be Honest
Yes, the interview process gives us a chance to get to know you and make a decision as to whether you would be a good fit for our team, but it also works the other way around. The interview is a chance for you to also assess whether you think our company is a good fit for you. We try to be as transparent as possible in regards to our company and culture, and we encourage you to be the same.
If you don’t feel chemistry with the team … or if you don’t like the hours … or if you don’t think you’d like the pace of work … you should listen to yourself. This saves a lot of time and effort for everyone involved. We want you to be just as excited to work with us as we are with you.
Don’t Be Late
This goes without saying, but oftentimes your in-person interview will be tightly scheduled among other meetings. Please respect our time and we’ll do the same.
In Denver, if you get to our office a little early, feel free to grab a drink at the Starbucks right around the corner. In Los Angeles, one of our favorite spots is Philz Coffee right below our office, if you have extra time and want a place to relax with a coffee.
Feel free to keep checking our jobs page for new openings. Things move quickly around here, and even though we may not have an opening for you right now, it’s a good possibility we will down the line. We look forward to connecting with you.
