If you’re familiar with connected lighting and the professional smart home channel, you’ve certainly heard of Lutron. One of the pinnacle companies in the space, Lutron was naturally an early partner of Josh.ai for premium voice control integration. From install to support, Josh works seamlessly with Lutron’s products to provide a delightful experience.
Many people are used to the Lutron Connect app or the Home+ app, but the various brand offerings can be a little confusing at times. Below we outline the residential offerings for Lutron today. As always, if you’re a home owner we recommend connecting directly with a professional installer to make sure the job is done right.
1. Entry level: Caséta
This is Lutron’s lowest cost solution, available at various big box retail stores direct to consumer. For someone looking to dip their toes and try a basic solution, the Caséta lighting system is for you. Suitable for single room and smaller installations, Caséta supports up to 50 devices in the home and is easy enough to be installed for the tech-savvy or professionally installed with the Smart Bridge Pro.
2. Mid-tier: RadioRA 2
Capable of supporting up to 200 devices, RadioRA 2 is the mid to high-level offering from Lutron. Unlike HomeWorks QS (described below), RadioRA 2 is optimized for retrofit projects. Keypads are available in more than 25 gloss, satin, and metal finishes, giving you the option to customize the look and feel of your experience. RadioRA 2 is also compatible with Lutron’s full line of shades and can be programmed to control fan speeds, appliance modules, occupancy sensors, and thermostats. RadioRA 2 is only available through official dealers and professional installers. Our CEO uses RadioRA 2 to power his home’s lights, shades, garage doors, and more!
3. Premium: Homeworks QS
The top of the line offering from Lutron is great for large projects and has even more design options to let you and your designer find the perfect fit. In addition to lighting, the QS line has beautiful (just released) shades and thermostats under the Palladiom line. Homeworks QS is a professionally installed system and has the benefits of wired communication to control shades, keypads, dimmers, and more. This makes HomeWorks QS great for new builds. HomeWorks QS also has more advanced programming logic such as conditionals, sequences, and variables.
4. Brand new: RA2 Select
Just announced at CEDIA 2017, RA2 Select combines the simplicity of Caséta with the professional feel of RadioRA 2. RA2 Select can control up to 100 devices giving you more options at a more affordable price. To be clear, this is a step up from Caséta and sits right below RadioRA2.
