Nest made a great move by acquiring Dropcam in 2014. They took great technology and added a slight redesign to create a slick looking product. It records at 1080p and has an app that lets you monitor your dog’s activities from anywhere in the world. Yes, when it comes down to it, Nest Cam is just a glorified webcam, but added features such as motion and sound detection make it an affordable way to get a little peace-of-mind when you are away.

Price: $199. More info here.

The Piper Classic

The Piper cameras come in two models: the classic and the NV. Both models offer full 180 degree views of your room, along with pan, tilt, and zoom features. The higher end NV model includes night vision along with 3.4 Megapixel quality video, as opposed to 2 Megapixel for the classic. One interesting feature that the Piper cameras offer is built in Z-Wave functionality, so you can build an integrated security system that includes lighting and sensors.

Price: Starting at $199. More info here.

Arlo also offers two models of cameras, depending on your needs. The Arlo Wire Free is durable and weatherproof, and, as the name suggests, the camera is wireless and can be put nearly anywhere. The Arlo Q offers video quality at full 1080p, which competes with other great cameras out there. Both cameras offer free 7 days of cloud recording and storage, upgradeable to other time periods, depending on your needs.

Price: Starting at $179. More info here.

The Netatmo Welcome

You currently have one choice, but will soon have two when it comes to Netatmo: the Presence and the Welcome. The Presence is an outdoor camera that also acts as a floodlight at night that can shine a spotlight if it detects movement, deterring any would-be trespassers. As of this writing, the Presence is not available yet, but you can enter your email to be notified when it becomes available. The Welcome is an indoor camera that offers facial recognition technology, to further help protect your home. It can tell the difference between your son or daughter and a stranger it has never seen before, and alert you immediately when that happens.

Price: Starting at $199. More info here.

Even though this camera is not available for purchase yet, it has some cool features that are worth mentioning and watching out for. Like Netatmo, Angee offers facial recognition for security, but it also offers voice recognition to add an extra layer of protection for home control security in addition to full 360 degree views of a room. The product raised over $500K through Kickstarter last year, and as of now, is currently raising another round of funding on Indiegogo.

Price: Retail starts at $429, but you can get it at a discount if you pledge to the crowdfunding campaign now. Estimated delivery is October 2016. More info here.
