Name: Jack Yost
What do you do at Josh? I do a little bit of a lot of things: I test software updates before they go out in the wild, I handle a lot of our customer support outreach and organization, and I do a wee-bit of NLP rule making and adjusting. I generally try to help out where I’m needed.
Where are you from originally? I grew up in the quiet and foggy town of Carmel California.
Which office do you work in? Denver
What do you love about the smart home? I love that I can walk in the front door and having everything up and running in a matter of seconds, not minutes. Having a hands free interface is also a plus, especially when I’m cooking, playing games, or working.
What are you most excited about over the next few years? I should be in a position to adopt a dog in a year or so. I think that having a dog would be really nice, especially for camping and backcountry skiing.
iPhone or Android? I’m an Android user, but using a Mac for work has me considering the switch. That said, switching over sounds like a pain in the butt, so that’ll probably never happen.
What do you do for fun? I love skiing. I wish Josh had a New Zealand office so that I could ski year round. When it’s not the ski season I like to rock climb, hike, mountain bike, and go brewery hunting.
If you could go anywhere, where would it be? I’d love to go skiing in Alaska or in Niseko, Japan. Alaska has some of the biggest terrain in the world while Niseko has some of the most consistent snowfall. Niseko is also in Japan, which is cool on its own. The decision isn’t an easy one, but I’m sure I’d be happy either way.
Favorite restaurant in the world? Tito’s Tacos.
Favorite IoT / smart home product? The engineers behind the Roomba deserve a Nobel prize. I can’t wait to say “Ok Josh, make me seem tidy”.
What is your favorite feature of Josh? I like that I can control my home remotely because it makes it easy to reduce energy waste.
Favorite books / reading material / websites? Favorite book series would have to be The Lord of the Rings. Beyond that I really enjoyed the Enders Game series, Ready Player One, and The Martian.
