Name: Casey Levy-Tulloch
What do you do at Josh? I work on the Business Development team at Josh, which means every day brings a new and exciting challenge!
Where are you originally from? I grew up in Marin County, which is on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. I decided to migrate south for college to attend the University of Southern California, Fight On!
What office do you work in? I work in the Santa Monica office — I’ve tried pushing for surf breaks at lunch time, but so far my efforts have been futile.
What do you love about the smart home? The endless possibilities of it. No matter who you are, where you live, or what you want to accomplish there’s a way. Whether it’s for the “wow” factor, or for people who need the assistance provided by automation there’s so many features and benefits the smart home can provide.
What are you most excited about over the next few years? Similar to how the smart phone revolution changed the way we communicate and interact with one another, for better or for worse, I believe the smart home will be the next frontier that will shift how we live our day-to-day. As homes become not only reactive, but also proactive based on user preferences there’s going to be so many applications that are introduced to make our lives easier. Until the robots take over, then I won’t be as excited...
iPhone or Android? iPhone, I’ve been addicted to Apple’s products since the first iPod.
What do you do for fun? I enjoy staying active and pretty much any chance to be competitive so I can relive my athletic glory days. The social scene in Los Angeles isn’t too bad either.
If you could go anywhere, where would it be? Last summer I went to Israel, Spain, and had a short stay in London. I’d never been to Europe before so that trip inspired me to want to go on another, more extensive, Euro-trip to explore all of the landmarks and culture those countries have to offer.
Favorite restaurant in the world? Mom’s house, nothing beats a home-cooked meal. (Disclaimer: I know she’s going to read this)
Favorite IoT / smart home product? I’m biased, but there’s nothing like Josh as far as simplicity as a plug and play system. The intuitiveness of the interface makes it easy to control everything in your home and create scenes to trigger devices simultaneously to set the mood.
What is your favorite feature of Josh? The Natural Language Processing (NLP) of Josh is my favorite feature. I work with our engineering team to design functionality around the different interactions our users are having with their systems. For Josh to work, no matter the diction or syntax, is one of our big competitive advantages so it feels like you’re talking to more than just a bot.
Favorite books / reading material / websites? I recently finished Relentless by Tim Grover and next on my list is Shoe Dog by Phil Knight. I enjoy learning about what motivates innovators so I can incorporate some of the philosophies and tactics they use. I’m also always trying to stay up to date on the latest in technology, culture, and sports, so my websites range from TechCrunch to GQ to Bleacher Report.
