The pace of the tech world moves extremely fast. Here at Josh.ai, being at the forefront of home automation and AI, we’ve seen how quickly technology has changed even within the last year!

As part of our commitment to continue to innovate, we were proud to announce last week that we have raised a total of $11M to further grow the company. This capital will allow us to, among other things, double the size of our team, focus on research and development, and build our proprietary hardware.

Our Company

The Josh.ai team in 2015

The idea for Josh.ai was conceived in 2015 on the ski slopes of Colorado. CEO Alex Capecelatro was getting ready to sell his company, Yeti, when he and CTO Tim Gill (who was also an advisor to Yeti) got into a conversation while skiing about AI and the lack of good home automation solutions. Tim had been working on the technology that underlies Josh for a number of years as a hobby in his own home, and both Alex and Tim saw the opportunity that this technology could provide.

The company was officially founded in March of that year. Since that time, the team has grown to 15 people and started shipping their first product in October 2016. We are excited to continue to grow our team in the coming year!

What We’re Building

Josh.ai is transforming how we live and interact with our homes through advanced technology and user interfaces. We developed our own proprietary language processing engine that specializes in device control, positioning Josh.ai to be the most flexible and accurate AI for home control.

While software is where we excel, we quickly saw the need for some type of far-field voice detection microphone that is more appropriate for the custom channel. This new funding will enable us to deliver what we believe to be an exciting hardware solution that will allow Josh.ai to be more accessible than ever before and provide a delightful experience to both the end-client and integrator.

A teaser of the upcoming Josh.ai hardware expected later this year.
