Name: Jack Politz
What do you do at Josh? Software Engineer. Adding new features, integrating new smart home products, and keeping Hunter from breaking anything.
Where are you from originally? Austin, TX
Which office do you work in? Denver, CO
What do you love about the smart home? Electronic organization is the only part of the home that isn’t obvious in the context of spring cleaning. Being able to organize and maintain devices adds an extra layer of comfort to the home.
What are you most excited about over the next few years? I’m excited to get back into pure software development after a few years at a dream job that was more process and systems oriented.
iPhone or Android? iPhone
What do you do for fun? Traveling, skiing, hiking, happy hour hunting, brewery hopping, cooking, and much more.
If you could go anywhere, where would it be? Space! I’ve always wanted to see the entire world from afar and experience the feeling of zero gravity.
Favorite restaurant in the world? Galatoire’s in New Orleans or Guido’s in Cozumel, Mexico
Favorite IoT / smart home product? I currently only have one: AirPort Express. It’s so convenient to wirelessly stream music from any of my devices to my vintage mixer/amp/speakers. I’m constantly brainstorming ways to automate turning on/off all these outdated systems, and I think Josh will definitely help with that!
What is your favorite feature of Josh? I’m most excited about Josh being context aware and conversational so I don’t have to memorize commands or the names of my rooms. Privacy is also huge in my mind and part of the reason my Echo speaker sits unplugged in a storage closet.
Favorite books / reading material / websites? Google Flights to find all the newest travel deals. AllTrails for scouting new hikes and adventures. I haven’t been able to read a lot lately with all the time I spend on hobby projects, so StackOverflow and tech blogs eat up most of my time in the search for new technologies and guides.
