Last week we heard reports that Nest Labs will be releasing new and updated products to grow its smart home portfolio. The company, which generated buzz in 2011 when it released the Nest Learning Thermostat, has yet to live up to its massive valuation and purchase price by Alphabet (Google) in 2014 for $3.2B. Late last year, to help refocus the company, Nest also replaced its CEO. This new product update and offering may be the catalyst to get people excited about the company again.

Here is what we know about the products to be announced:

Nest Labs is reportedly working on a lower cost version of its most popular product — the Learning Thermostat. The current version on the market retails for $249, while this new version is supposed to be priced under $200. Details of the newer, less expensive model are unclear, but one source suggested the thermostat will be made with cheaper components and look a bit different than the original one.

The company is also developing sensors that can be placed in each room to better monitor and control the environment on a room-by-room basis, instead of requiring the user to install multiple thermostats for each room. The new thermostat could be ready for launch next year.

The company is also reportedly making an attempt to capture some of the market for the growing interest in video doorbells. The doorbell will have a camera that will likely be accessible from the current Nest app, to allow access to all of your Nest devices from one place. No word on what the form factor will be, but Nest may be able to start shipping these next year as well.

Last year, we heard reports of a new security system being developed, but the company hasn’t released any information since. The system will consist of multiple new devices under development, including door/window sensors, keypads for wall mounting, and key fobs that will assist in arming/disarming the system. The system will be cloud accessible, allowing the user to grant access to visitors and control the security system remotely. This security system is reportedly slated to ship later this year.

The company hasn’t done much with its indoor camera since it bought Dropcam and repackaged it in 2015. This new version of the camera will be further marketed as a security device, and possibly have the capability to identify people captured in the video stream. This new camera may be released later this year.

Of course these are mostly rumors, so we don’t know what, if anything, Nest will release in the next 12 months. We’re hopeful to see more high quality products from a company that helped put the smart home on the map!
