It’s been a monumental 2017 for the Josh team from launching a new product to partnering with numerous new manufacturers and integrators across the country. We feel very thankful for the success this year has brought and look forward to an even better 2018. Cheers to all who have made it possible 🥂.
1. Josh Micro
Our biggest news this year was the announcement of Josh Micro. In case you missed it, Josh Micro completely replaces the Mac Mini as a home processor, is equipped with a far-field mic array, includes sensors such as ambient light and temperature, and significantly drops in price from where the Mac Mini was. Josh Micro took CEDIA’s Best New Product Award, we’ve sold out of pre-orders on our first batch, and we’ll be shipping in both white as well as space grey. You can see a demo video shot in our LA office using the POE adaptor below.
2. Josh App
This year the Josh mobile app saw a major update with on-the-fly scene creation and a fresh new look. While Josh is often known as a voice interface, the app provides an easy-to-use UI for controlling everything in the home. The app is also great for remote access and control, checking security cameras, and issuing voice commands from your phone.
3. Dealer Base
With more than 250 dealers applying at CEDIA alone, we kept a high bar and interviewed each of our partners before certifying them to sell Josh. Our goal was to close the year with 100 dealers across the US, and we’re proud to have a great set of partners. Part of this process involved putting together our customer brochure which you can see here.
4. Partnerships / Integrations
As we continue to grow, we’re building stronger relationships with important manufacturers. Last week we were at Lutron’s HQ and we’ll be in their booth at CES this January. We’re actively working with Crestron, Sonos, and many others. 2017 was a big year for Josh.ai integrations and this will continue as we grow and expand into more areas.
This year we nearly doubled the team, hiring amazing engineers, designers, and folks to the business development team. We’re actively hiring, so if you know any exceptional candidates please send them to josh.ai/jobs. I’m really proud of the team we’ve built!
6. Young Professional of the Year Award
Our CEO Alex Capecelatro was honored as CEDIA’s Young Professional of the Year at the San Diego 2017 trade show. With just 3 years in the residential technology industry, Al has become a leading innovator in the field of user interface, building a company that is on the edge of voice control technology.
We’re very fortunate to have clients spread across the country, from the Hamptons to South Beach, Aspen to Silicon Valley. This year Josh was welcomed into many new projects for some very notable clients. It’s been exciting seeing happy clients living with Josh.ai!
8. New Office + Funding
Last but not least, this year we announced funding of $11M in order to grow the team, launch hardware, and build a world-class home automation company. If you missed it, read the announcement here. We recently moved both the Denver as well as the LA team into new offices. If you’re in either location, reach out and drop by!
